Mozambican Metical
Mozambique Metical , The metical (/ˈmɛtɪˌkæl/; plural: meticais) is the currency of Mozambique, abbreviated with the symbol MZN or MT. It is nominally divided into 100 centavos. The name metical comes from Arabic مثقال (mithqāl), a unit of weight and an alternative name for the gold dinar coin that was used throughout much of Africa until the 19th century. First metical The metical (MZM) replaced the escudo at par on 16 June 1980. It was divided into 100 centavos. The metical underwent severe inflation. After the revaluation of the Romanian leu on 1 July 2005, the metical briefly became the least valued currency unit, at a value of about 24,500 meticais per USD, until the Zimbabwean dollar took the title in late August 2005. Second metical On July 1, 2006, Mozambique redenominated the metical at a rate of 1000:1. The new ISO 4217 code is MZN. New coins and banknotes were introduced on July 1, 2006, and the transitional period during which both old and new meticais could be used lasted until December 31, 2006. During the conversion, the new currency was locally abbreviated as MTn, but has since largely returned to MT. Old meticais were redeemed by the Bank of Mozambique for a period of six years, until December 31, 2012. Coins First metical In 1980, coins were introduced in denominations of 50 centavos, 1, 2+1⁄2, 5, 10 and 20 meticais. The 50 centavos, 2+1⁄2 and 5 meticais were minted in aluminium, with the 1 metical in brass and the 10 and 20 meticais in cupro-nickel. In 1986, aluminium 1, 10, 20 and 50 meticais were introduced. A new coinage issued in 1994 was composed of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 meticais, with the lower four denominations in brass clad steel and the higher denominations in nickel clad steel. 5000 meticais coins were introduced in 1998, followed by 10,000 meticais in 2003. Belizean Dollar
The Belize dollar is the official currency of Belize (currency code BZD). It is usually denoted by the dollar sign $ or alternatively BZ$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is divided into 100 cents. The official cost is 2 BZ$ = 1 US dollar. story The first dollars circulating in British Honduras were Spanish dollars, some of which were stamped with the monogram of the crowned -GR- (lat. Georgius Rex, King George). They circulated between 1765 and 1825 at a price of 6s 8d. that is, one third of a pound sterling. In 1825, the Imperial Council decreed the introduction of the British pound coin in all British colonies. This council decision made sterling coins legal tender; he set the exchange rate between the pound sterling and the Spanish dollar at $1 = 4s 4d. This exchange rate should be based on the value of silver in Spanish dollars compared to the value of gold in British Sovereigns. A realistic exchange rate would have been $4.80 to £1 (equivalent to $1 to 4s 2d), so the unrealistic exchange rate included in the 1825 Council Decree meant the initiative largely failed. Corrective legislation was passed in 1838 with a new Ordinance of Council that did not apply to the British North American colonies due to minor rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada. Legislation in 1838 introduced the correct value of $1 = 4s 2d. When the original Council Ordinance of 1825 was passed in Jamaica, Bermuda, and British Honduras, local authorities reversed the misclassification of $1 = 4s 4d and unofficially used the alternative classification of $1 = 4d. The Bahamas would later follow the same approach. By the time the Indemnification Act of 1838 came into force, the pound sterling was firmly established in these areas, the Spanish dollar was banned from circulation, and the authorities did not want to carry out a devaluation that, at the correct rate of 1 dollar = 4 shillings 2 d, would be bound. The British shilling, commonly known as "macaroni", was equivalent to a quarter, and the system worked very satisfactorily. In British Honduras, as well as in Jamaica and Bermuda, in the middle of the 19th century, the monetary system of the British pound sterling operated. After the international silver crisis of 1873, neighboring Guatemala's silver peso forced the British currency out of circulation. In an attempt to bring British Honduras back to the gold standard, and influenced by the fact that most imports came from New Orleans in the United States, a new currency based on the US dollar was introduced in British Honduras, resulting in British Honduras Honduras being reconciled. with Canada. At that time, the Canadian dollar was on the gold standard, and one Canadian dollar was equal to one US dollar. This is where the monetary history of British Honduras differs from that of the rest of the British West Indies. 1 cent coins were issued in 1885, followed by higher denominations in 1894. That same year, the government issued banknotes for the first time, switching from the silver Guatemalan peso to the US gold dollar as the base currency at a price of US$4.866 = 1 pound. The exchange rate of $4.866 versus $4.80 is explained by the fact that the US dollar, when it was introduced in 1792, was based on the average weight of a set of worn Spanish dollars. Thus, the US dollar traded at a slight discount against the Spanish dollar. Following the introduction of the US dollar gold standard in British Honduras, the 25 cent coins became known as shillings due to their proximity to shillings. When Britain abandoned the gold standard in 1931, the British Honduras dollar remained pegged to the US dollar and, as such, did not become part of the pound sterling. Unlike Canada, Newfoundland and Hong Kong, British Honduras joined sterling territory at the outbreak of World War II, although it maintained a fixed exchange rate against the US dollar. The block sterling should not be confused with the sterling range. The first was a group of countries that pegged their local currencies to the pound sterling when Britain went off the gold standard in 1931, and the second was an exchange control mechanism introduced as an emergency measure at the start of World War II. In 1949, the British pound sterling was devalued from US$4.03 to US$2.80. Since the British Honduran dollar was pegged to the US dollar, this caused the British Honduran dollar to appreciate against the pound. Protests followed, leading to the devaluation of British Honduras.
