Surinamese Dollar
Suriname Dollar , The Surinamese dollar (ISO 4217 code SRD) has been the currency of Suriname since 2004. It is divided into 100 cent. The Surinamese dollar is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or alternatively Sr$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. In spoken Surinamese Dutch, it is widely referred to by its acronym SRD (Dutch: [ˌɛsɛrˈdeː]), with "dollar" generally being understood as meaning the US dollar. History The dollar replaced the Surinamese guilder on 1 January 2004, with one dollar equal to 1,000 guilders. Initially, only coins were available, with banknotes delayed until mid-February, reportedly due to a problem at the printer, the Canadian Bank Note Company. The old coins denominated in cents (i.e. 1⁄100 guilder) were declared to be worth their face value in the new cents, negating the necessity of producing new coins. Thus, for example, an old 25-cent coin, previously worth 1⁄4 guilder, was now worth 1⁄4 dollar (equivalent to 250 guilders). The rebasing of coins explicitly did not apply to commemorative coins. Amendment 121 of ISO 4217 gave the currency the code SRD replacing the Suriname guilder (SRG). The people of Suriname often refer to their currency as SRD to differentiate it from the US dollar, which is also used to quote prices for electronic goods, household furnishings and appliances, and automobiles. Unlike most currencies in the American continent, Surinamese dollar does not fluctuate freely according to the market value; its value is set by the central bank. As a result, black market exchange rates may differ significantly from the official rate. Banknotes The Surinamese dollar replaced the Surinamese guilder on 1 January 2004, with one dollar equal to 1,000 guilders, prompting the issuance of notes denominated in the new currency. On the notes, the currency is expressed in the singular, as is the Dutch custom. Find out more from wikipedia
Swiss Franc

The Swiss franc (German: Franken, French: franc, Italian: franco and Romansh: franc; sign: Fr. (in the German language), fr. (in French, Italian, Romansh languages), or CHF in any other language, or internationally; code: CHF) is the currency and legal tender of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It is also legal tender in the Italian exclave of Campione d'Italia. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) issues banknotes and the federal mint Swissmint issues coins.

The smaller denomination, a hundredth of a franc, is a Rappen (Rp.) in German, centime (c.) in French, centesimo (ct.) in Italian, and rap (RP.) in Romansh. The ISO 4217 code of the currency is CHF, which is used by banks and financial institutions.

The official symbols Fr. (German symbol) and fr. (Latin languages) are widely used by businesses and advertisers, also for the English language. According to Art. 1 SR/RS 941.101 of the federal law collection the internationally official abbreviation – besides the national languages – however, is CHF, also in English; respective guides also request to use the ISO 4217 code. The use of SFr. for Swiss Franc and fr. SV. is outdated. The Latinate "CH" stands for Confoederatio Helvetica. Given the different languages used in Switzerland, Latin is used for language-neutral inscriptions on its coins.

Story

Before the Helvetic Republic

Until 1798, about 75 organizations produced coins in Switzerland, including 25 cantons and half-cantons, 16 cities, and abbeys, resulting in about 860 different coins of various denominations, denominations, and monetary systems in circulation. However, the origin of most of these currencies can be traced back either to the French livre tournois (predecessor of the French franc) or to the 17th century South German guilder. New Swiss currencies emerged in the 18th century after the Swiss cantons did not follow the rate of depreciation that had occurred in France and Germany. However, they mostly existed only an as small change, as they were little more than a community currency, circulating in one canton but not in another, and foreign coins such as French francs and Brabant dollars were more recognized as currency throughout Switzerland.

Below is a general overview of existing currencies at the end of the 18th century, including their equivalents in the French ECU of 26.67 g fine silver, the South German kronenthaler of 25.71 g of fine silver, and the Swiss franc of 4.5 g of fine silver.

Banknotes

In 1907, the Swiss National Bank took over the issuance of banknotes by the cantons and various banks. Denominations of 50, 100, 500, and 1000 francs were introduced. 20-franc notes were introduced in 1911, followed by 5-franc notes in 1913. In 1914, the Federal Treasury issued paper money in denominations of 5, 10, and 20 francs. These banknotes were issued in three different versions: French, German and Italian. In the same year, the State Loan Bank also issued 25-franc notes. In 1952, the national bank stopped issuing 5 franc notes but introduced 10 franc notes in 1955. In 1996, 200 franc notes were introduced and the 500 franc note was discontinued.

The Swiss National Bank has printed eight series of banknotes, six of which have been issued for use by the general public. The sixth series in 1976, designed by Ernst and Ursula Histand [de], depicted people from the world of science. This series was withdrawn on 1 May 2000 and is no longer legal tender, but notes can still be exchanged for valid notes of the same denomination at any National Bank branch or authorized agent, or mailed to the National Bank in exchange for a deposit. bank account. Initially, the exchange program was supposed to end on April 30, 2020, after which the sixth series of banknotes will lose all value. As of 2016, the 1.1 billion francs series six banknotes had not yet been exchanged, although they had not been legal tender for 16 years, leaving only 4 years to exchange them. To avoid such large amounts of money expiring in 2020, the Federal Council (Cabinet of Ministers) and the National Bank proposed in April 2017 to remove the time limit on exchanges for the sixth and future revocable series. Since 2020, this offer has come into force, so the old series of banknotes do not expire.
